Enjoy a walking guided tour of Trastevere and the Jewish Ghetto of Rome as the sun is setting and soak up the neighborhood’s bohemian atmosphere and its numerous landmarks.

Itinerary

The 3-hour walking tour departs from in front of the Church of Gesù, where you’ll find out about the incredible legend of the Devil, the wind and the Piazza del Gesù.

Continue your walk to Piazza Mattei, where the curious Fontana delle Tartarughe (The Turtle Fountain) stands, and your guide will explain the possible meaning of its construction. Then, follow your guide to the banks of the River Tiber. Here you’ll visit the Portico d’Ottavia, erected by the Emperor Augustus and the Theatre of Marcellus. The influential poet Horatius would recite his poetry in this theatre.

Next to the Theatre is located the Great Synagogue of Rome. You’ll marvel at its imposing façade and learn about the history of the Jewish Ghetto in the capital of Italy. Afterwards, you’ll cross the Pons Fabricius, the oldest Roman bridge in the city, and wander to the Tiber Island. Your guide will explain how it became a place of healing and how the patients were treated while they lived on the island.

On the other side of the island is Trastevere, one of Rome’s most bohemian neighborhoods. During the tour, you’ll stroll through its charming streets and finally cross Ponte Garibaldi to Piazza Campo de’ Fiori, famous for its open-air market packed with flowers, food and vintage clothing.
