Rome Taxis
People often say that taxis in Rome are very expensive and that the drivers always try to con you. Although there will always be disagreement to this accusation, there is some truth to it.

Caution with swindlers
Rome is a city where the cab drivers are especially famous as con artists, not just with tourists, but also with the Romans themselves. We give you a few pieces of advice to avoid being deceived:
- Fares to the airports are defined by law: €40 to Fiumicino and €30 to Ciampino. These prices are valid for up to four occupants with their suitcases. If they try to charge you more you should refuse.
- The fare between Termini and any point in the city should be between 8 and 15 Euros. It is always good to try to have a basic knowledge of the route that you should take and to make sure that you are dropped off where you wanted to go.
- There are two types of rate, 1 and 2. Make sure that the taximeter is not on rate 2 if you do not want to pay more, this should only be used outside of the city.
- The first way to avoid being deceived is to choose a genuine taxi: you should board a correctly identified taxi that is white, with a sign in the ceiling and a taximeter in the interior. You should only catch taxis that have the phone number on the exterior, indicating that they work with an agency.
- On boarding you can write down the license number of the cabdriver, which is indicated in the rear seats of the vehicle. It will be placed with the telephone number of the company.
- If at the end of the journey none of this works and you believe that they are deceiving you, do not get intimidated and call the Carabinieri. It is always a good idea to ask for a receipt and, with the previous information, make complaint to the company.
