Venture to the outskirts of Rome during a 3-hour half day-trip and head to the Basilica of Saint Sebastian and its Catacombs. Then walk down the magnificent Via Appia Antica (Appian Way), one of the most important Roman roads, and possibly the oldest artery that still exists.
Catacombs & Appian Way Tour
Greet your guide near the Barberini Metro Station in Piazza Barberini at 10 am and climb on board an air-conditioned coach and depart with a small-group to the Basilica of St Sebastian.
Upon arrival, make your way into the Catacombs of St Sebastian, located underneath the Basilica with the same name and discover the caves, tunnels and tuff mines, where thousands of years ago pagans and Christians worshipped and were buried. In the Catacombs, you’ll be shown by your expert guide where the bodies of the apostles St Peter and St Paul once lay according to the legend.
Afterwards, continue along the Appian Way, considered the first “highway” in Europe, to the impressive Aqueduct Park, which houses seven ancient Roman aqueducts. You’ll also marvel at one of the aqueducts that still supplies water to this day.
Hop back into the climate-controlled coach and head back to Rome, where you will be dropped off in the city centre.
If you prefer to discover the surprising Catacombs and the momentous Via Appia Antica just with your family and/or friends, you can book our private tour that departs at the same time every day. For more information, get in contact through the form found at https://www.civitatis.com/en/contact/.
