Rome Fascist History Walking Tour
Have you heard of the EUR neighbourhood? Explore its streets and discover the architecture designed in Rome at the time of Benito Mussolini's fascist dictatorship with this Rome Fascist History Walking Tour.
Rome Fascist History Walking Tour
At 9:30 am, we'll meet at the Circo Massimo metro stop and board a minibus that will take us to explore the other side of Rome. We'll leave behind the monuments of the Ancient Empire to discover the recent history of this city during the time of Mussolini.
The tour will take us to visit the EUR district, an area designed by the Italian dictator in 1942 to host the Universal Exhibition commemorating the first 20 years of Fascism. During the route we'll combine minibus rides with several stops to approach the monuments we come across on foot, so you won't stop taking photos!
First, we'll explore the exteriors of buildings designed during fascism, such as the Palace of Civilisation, known as the square Colosseum, and the Palace of Congresses. We'll also visit the interior of the Basilica of Saints Peter and Paul, designed by Arnaldo Franchini, one of the architects of the regime.
At the end of the tour, we'll spend some time strolling through Central Lake Park, completed after the Second World War. Its large artificial spring was designed by Marcello Piacentini, one of Mussolini's favourite architects.
The tour will end at 12:30 pm. We can drop you off at the EUR Palasport metro stop to continue exploring the area on your own or take you back to the starting point. It's up to you!
